Wren sepia skirt: fun with math

Wren sepia skirt available at Josef

We love the Wren Sepia skirt pictured above and love how it’s paired with the Elliot tank. Finish off your summer with the skirt. Wear it casually with a relaxed tank or dress it up with a white button down and black blazer. The pattern the dye forms on the fabric is pretty nifty — it reminds us of fractals. Have a great weekend!

Dressing for Summer weather

As the weather gets warmer, we sometimes feel our selection in warm-weather clothing is limited. We suggest keeping your outfits simple and elegant like Sienna Miller above wearing a Yoana Baraschi sundress while on the streets. At the store our current favorites are the Wren Navy Shorts with the Wren Inkblot Tee. We also heart the Twinkle Ariel Tank with skinny jeans. Ladies, for the season, the more distressed the better; and while we’re on denim, the lighter the wash, the better as well!
For footwear try flat sandals or ballet flats. Wedge sandals also go very well with summer attire. Wedges in tan leather and a statement bag can finish the outfit.
Linen trousers or a great tulip skirt with a summer blouse make up a work-appropriate outfit. If you’d like to be more creative, a sweet sundress with a cotton cardigan will also keep you cool in the office. To keep looking neat, avoid shorts and tennies and cotton shelf-bra tank tops worn by themselves. We hope you enjoy the weather and have a wonderful week!

Katie Holmes in Wren

Katie Holmes was photographed yesterday wearing a Wren dress and cardigan. We love Katie’s style, especially when she’s dressed casually and running around town with Suri. Shop our selection of Wren Spring and Summer clothing to master your casual style like Katie. Happy Friday, it’s going to be hot this weekend. Try to stay cool.

Hot to Cold

Spring is a confusing time for the weather. One minute it’s sunny and warm, and the next minute it’s breezy and chilly. We recommend building your spring wardrobe with layers. Start with fine knits in cashmere, cotton or silk. We recommend just a couple of long and short sleeve tees and tanks in those materials. After the knits, you can start looking for the pretty Spring/Summer blouses. We suggest getting at least 2 special blouses in a pretty floral or bold graphic print. The third layer will be your outerwear. We love cotton coats for Spring and your options are endless. Try a cotton blazer, short belted jacket, short or full length trench, or anorak.
As for bottoms, shorts, jeans and skirts are the obvious choices for springtime bottoms. When you shop for tops, make sure they look great with all three options. If you can mix and match your Spring purchases, you’ll have an easy time getting dressed in the morning.
Add punch to your outfits with accessories. Spring accessories are a great way to experiment with color, texture and pattern. Bags, shoes, and jewelry seem like less of a commitment to the unknown. They also help your ease into a color you’ve always wanted to try, but never brave enough to buy in a dress or top. The most well dressed women always have an appropriate, chic outfit for the weather conditions and their age. Hope you enjoy these easy springtime dressing tips!

On Molliee: Steven Alan Cabana Jacket, Wren Inkblot Tee, Wren Navy Shorts. All available at Josef Boutique, San Mateo.

You’re so evil to me

One of our most delightful customers told us that we’re so evil to her this afternoon. It’s been a while since she was last in the shop, and after perusing all of our new Spring and Summer clothing those were the words she was so compelled to say. We heart our selection too, LP, and thanks again for shopping with us today! We’ve taken “you’re so evil to me” to mean I love all the clothes in here, but I can’t buy them all, so now I must set them free. The old saying, “if you really love [something], set it free” is so very true.

In other news, our Wren Summer 2009 collection hit the store today! It’s really amazing. We got in a 100% organic cotton tee with a golden peace sign adorning the front, a lined striped linen full mini skirt, a 100% cotton celestial embroidered cotton tank dress (see photo above), and a 100% silk sketch print dress in sunrise. Admiring the pieces will transport you to a tropical island or the French Riviera instantly! For an abbreviated mental break, stop by Josef to enjoy the new Wren Summer 09 clothing. Have a terrific weekend everyone!

Wren spring fashion week party

Wren designer and founder, Melissa Coker, with models during Spring Fashion Week

We thought that this is a very relevant picture since we just received Wren’s Spring line. We love to see how girls wear the clothing we have in the store out on the streets in their everyday lives. Melissa is actually wearing our black Full Mini in this picture with a purple top, blue cardigan and black flats – so cute!
Also, on the right a model is wearing the Sepia Full Mini we have in the shop. Pairing the skirt with a golden cardigan, white tee and white oxfords is genius. We’re inspired by the color palette of the clothing – true to Wren form elegant and intelligent. For more of Melissa’s pictures click here.

Wren Fall Presentation

In the middle of February designers converged to New York City to present their Fall collections. We got a sneak peak at Melissa Coker’s Wren Fall Collection. Staying true to her signature look, Melissa has created wonderful separates and to-die-for dresses. We love Wren because the clothes are sweet and fun, but always sophisticated. Wren girls are smart, worldly and have a witty sense of humor. We’re excited for this line and are looking forward to bringing in some sweaters and coats from the group.

Wren full mini featured on Examiner DC style blog

DC Women’s Style Examiner, Monica Byrd, featured our Wren full mini skirt on her blog yesterday. Exciting! Click the image or link to her blog to read the full post and then scroll to the middle. You should see a brief mention of the black full mini. Thanks Monica for the link to our site.

We love this skirt too. During the cold months, you can wear it with chunky sweaters, tights and knee boots. When it starts to get warmer, you can wear it with delicate cotton voile blouses and flat strappy sandals. The color is just right, basic black. To keep it looking fresh, try pairing it with neutral colors like oatmeal, blush, taupe, camel, and navy blue.

Also, we want to remind you about Downtown San Mateo’s Artwalk tomorrow on South B Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues. Josef clothing will be featured on 4 models. After the walk visit us at our table inside of Gator’s Neo-Soul Cafe. There will be goodies compliments of Josef for the early birds! See you at 5:30pm starting at Photography SF on Ellsworth. For more details click here.

In good company

I did an online search this morning for “josef boutique” to see what kind of results I’d get and found that I’m listed on Wren’s website with the likes of Fred Segal, Tracy Ross and Opening Ceremony. It turns out that Josef is the only stockist of Wren clothing listed in Northern California, so come get your Wren clothing!
